How to use dark mode in QuietPDF

QuietPDF has both a light and a dark theme. If you work late or just prefer a darker screen, switching is a single click. Here is everything there is to know.

How do I turn on dark mode?

Click the sun/moon toggle in the navigation bar at the top of the app (it sits in the toolbar on the home page and the compressor pages). One click switches from light to dark; click it again to switch back. The change applies instantly across the whole site.

Will QuietPDF remember my choice?

Yes. Your theme is saved in your browser, so it stays the way you left it the next time you visit, with no need to set it again. Because it is stored locally, the setting is per browser and per device: choosing dark on your laptop won’t change anything on your phone. Clearing your browser’s site data resets it back to light.

Why doesn’t it follow my system dark mode?

That is on purpose. QuietPDF defaults to its light theme and treats dark mode as opt-in through the toggle, rather than automatically matching your operating system’s setting. The light palette is the look the app was designed around, so everyone starts there; if you want dark, the toggle is one click away and your choice sticks.

Does the theme load without a flash?

Yes. QuietPDF applies your saved theme before the page paints, so you won’t see a flash of the light screen before it switches to dark. And like everything else here, your theme preference never leaves your device; it is just a small note in your own browser’s storage.

Does dark mode change my PDFs?

No. The theme only affects how QuietPDF’s own pages look on screen. Your compressed files, extracted text, and merged PDFs come out exactly the same whether you work in light or dark — the setting is purely about the interface, never your documents.

Which theme should I use?

Whichever is easier on your eyes. Dark mode is popular for working late or in a dim room, where a bright screen can feel harsh; the light theme tends to be clearer in a brightly lit office or outdoors. Neither is “better” — it comes down to your surroundings and preference, and you can switch back and forth as often as you like. The toggle works the same way on phones, tablets, and desktops.

That is the whole feature. Ready to use it? Compress a PDF in your browser in whichever theme you prefer.
